Surfing

A few kilometres from our location is the town of Putzu Idu, with its beautiful promenade, promontory and beach, all framing a local surfer’s paradise. This surf spot (Capo Mannu) is quite well known nationally as well as at the European level and recognized by many as one of the best surf spots in the Mediterranean. (Autumn 2017 first edition of FISW Surf Games)

To the north of the bay, on the south side of Capo Mannu, the characteristics of the seabed cause at least three types of breaks to form along a short stretch of the coast. In one session you can go from a small break with gentle waves and regular intervals, to real walls of 3 to 4 meters, all under the same weather conditions. These breaks are created by the north-westerly winds of the Mistral that blow side-on almost constantly during the “off season” periods. When these winds have been unleashed for more than 48 hours, they push mountains of water toward the sheltered bay, which becomes an ideal surf spot for the lucky surfers who happen to be there.
