In the “off season” periods the weather conditions allow for windsurfing on most of the beaches of the Sinis peninsula. The spot closest to our location is Mari Ermi, where the seabed is mostly sandy but with a good break near the rock north of the long beach. Winds there are westerly or north-westerly and allow for both Freestyle and wave surfing.
A bit further north is Capo Mannu (see Wave Surfing), which is famous for wave surfing. And just a few kilometres to the south lies Funtana Meiga di San Giovanni di Sinis, a spot that has recently become famous for its beautiful waves, which roll in from four directions. The north-westerly wind creates enjoyable conditions for doing tricks. The northerly wind creates irregular sets but is still good (a bit of extra concentration may be required). The southerly wind creates swells that run almost parallel to the coast, and the south-westerly wind brings swells from the open sea. These last two are a lot of fun!
In addition, to the east of San Giovanni, south of the tower of Tharros, lies the peaceful waters of the Gulf of Oristano (Mare Morto). There, the winds remain strong with minimal waves, especially to the north, just in front of the archaeological ruins. This is an ideal spot for the less experienced.
